Glenda'S 16 Bean Soup Recipe - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. (12 to 16 different varieties) beans, washed thoroughly
    1 tsp. salt
    2 qt. water
    ham or chicken pieces
    1 large onion, sliced thin
    1 can tomatoes
    1 pod red pepper or 1/2 tsp. dried
    1 tsp. chili powder
    juice of 1 lemon and bit of peel
    salt and pepper to taste
    carrots, basil, garlic and/or olive oil (optional)
Preparation
    Place beans in large kettle and cover with water.
    Add salt to beans and water; soak overnight.
    Next morning, drain and add 2 quarts water.
    Add some ham or chicken pieces.
    Boil slowly for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add the rest of ingredients.
    Simmer another 30 minutes and serve with cornbread or crackers.
