Grace Haley'S War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 c. sugar
2 c. water
2 Tbsp. shortening
1 pkg. raisins
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
3 1/2 c. flour
1 rounded tsp. baking soda

Note:
The addition of 1 cup walnuts and a tub of candied fruits makes an excellent fruit cake.
