Great-Great Granny Delia'S Chicken And Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 hen, cut in pieces
    salt and pepper to taste
    small amount of shortening
    water
    3 c. flour
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. chicken stock
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Season chicken and brown in shortening.
    Cover with water and cook until tender.
    While the hen is cooking, prepare the dumplings.
    Mix dry ingredients together.
    Add eggs and stock. Make into dough stiff enough to roll out thin and cut in narrow strips.
    Drop dumplings into boiling pan of chicken and stock. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes.
