Ingredients

2 c. sliced or chopped onions
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 1/2 qt. beef stock (College Inn or Swanson's)
salt
freshly ground black pepper
4 slices French bread, toasted
Preparation

Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
Saute onions in 4 tablespoons butter until golden.
Add stock and boil 10 minutes.
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Put toast in one large casserole or small individual bowls.
Add soup and top with Mozzarella or Muenster cheese.
Bake until top is golden brown (5 to 10 minutes).
