Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 egg
    1 c. sugar
    1 pt. flour
    3 tsp. baking powder (level)
    1 tsp. salt (level)
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1 c. milk
Preparation
    Beat the one egg; add sugar and beat until very light and white.
    Add the milk without stirring.
    Then sift 1 pint flour to which has been added the baking powder and salt and nutmeg.
    Beat this thoroughly; then add quickly enough flour to make a firm but soft dough.
    Roll out 1/2-inch thick; cut into rings.
