Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs (unbeaten)
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. water
1/2 c. chopped walnuts or 1 c. flaked coconut
Preparation

Melt shortening in saucepan; add sugar and stir until dissolved.
Cool 2 to 3 minutes.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each.
Sift flour with salt and baking powder.
Add to first mixture.
Add vanilla, water and nuts or coconut.
Turn into greased 8 x 12-inch pan.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes or less in a 350\u00b0 oven.
