Washington Favorite Senate Bean Soup - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. (16 oz.) Great Northern beans
2 or more qt. water
1 meaty ham bone
1 c. diced onion
1 c. diced potato
1 c. chopped celery
1 clove minced garlic
Preparation

Put beans in a large pot.
Add the 2 or better quarts of water and soak overnight.
Next day, drain the beans and add more water, more than cover.
Add the ham bone to the beans and water, cover and simmer for 2 hours.
Remove the ham bone from pot and chop the meat and return it to the pot.
Then add onion, potato, celery and garlic.
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Be sure there is enough water, cook for another hour.
