Christmas Candy Canes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1/2 c. water
    3/4 c. light corn syrup
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 tsp. peppermint flavoring
    3/4 tsp. red vegetable coloring
Preparation
    In saucepan combine sugar, water, syrup and cream of tartar until the sugar is dissolved.
    Put 1/2 of this syrup into another saucepan.
    Boil both saucepans until syrup reaches 260\u00b0 on your candy thermometer.
    Do not stir!
    Add 1/2 teaspoon peppermint to each saucepan.
    Add food coloring to one pan only!
    Oil enamel or marble table and pour syrup on it to cool.
    Like taffy, you stretch and pull and form each color into ropes of red and white.
    Then twist them around again and again.
    Form into candy canes.
    Let them harden on an oiled surface.
    Then hang them in the Christmas tree.
