Butterhorns - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. dry yeast
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/4 c. lukewarm water
    2 c. flour, sifted
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter
    1/4 c. shortening
    2 egg yolks
    2 egg whites
    1/2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Blend the yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar and lukewarm water together in a small bowl; set aside.
    Combine the sifted flour, salt, butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl.
    Cut butter and shortening into the flour and salt mixture with a pastry blender.
    Beat the egg yolks slightly with a fork; add to flour mixture, along with yeast mixture.
    Mix well.
    Beat the egg whites until foamy.
    Begin adding 1/2 cup sugar very gradually; beat until mixture holds a stiff peak.
